Jet Card Prices: What Recent Changes Mean for Private Flyers

Market information checked on 28 October 2026.

Jet card prices deserve a closer look before your next renewal. Rates increased at the start of 2026, but the latest quarterly research shows a fall in the market average. At the same time, minimum billable time has risen. A lower hourly rate can therefore sit alongside a higher charge for a short journey.

For frequent private flyers, the useful question is how a programme prices the journeys they actually make. Aircraft category, booking notice, airport coverage and cancellation terms all belong in that calculation.

What is a jet card?

A jet card provides prepaid access to private aviation, typically through a balance of funds or flight hours. The agreement sets out how that balance is used, which aircraft categories are available and the conditions attached to bookings.

Some programmes offer fixed hourly rates and availability guarantees within a defined service area. Those benefits depend on the contract. A fixed base rate does not necessarily fix every component of the flight bill.

For example, a programme may fix the base hourly rate while applying a separate fuel adjustment. Another may include fuel, aircraft positioning and deicing within its quoted rate. The comparison should establish exactly which costs are included and which can change.

Have jet card prices increased recently?

There have been increases, although the direction has changed during 2026.

Private Jet Card Comparisons reported that average hourly rates rose by 1.6% in the first quarter of 2026 compared with the previous quarter. Average daily minimums increased by 11.6% over the same period.

Its latest report, published on 5 October 2026, shows a different picture for the third quarter. Average hourly rates fell by 3.1% compared with the second quarter and were 2.7% below the same period in 2025. However, they remained 23.7% above the level recorded in the final quarter of 2019. Average daily minimums also rose, moving from 92.9 minutes in the second quarter to 95 minutes in the third.

The research covers North American entry level cards below 50 hours with guaranteed rates and availability. Its hourly figures include fuel surcharges and US Federal Excise Tax. These findings provide market context rather than European charter quotations.

The latest figures show why the distinction between hourly rates and total trip costs matters. Average hourly pricing has eased, while minimum billing has increased. Changes in the programmes included in the research can also affect the average.

Why your trip can cost more when the hourly rate falls

An hourly rate only becomes meaningful when you know how many hours will be deducted.

Consider an illustrative booking with 60 minutes of billable flight time and a 90 minute minimum. The programme would charge for 90 minutes, assuming no other billing provisions apply. That is 50% more time than the flight itself. This is a billing example, not a price quotation.

Before renewing, ask the provider to calculate several previous journeys under the proposed terms. Request the total deduction for each flight, including taxi time, minimum charges, supplements and applicable taxes. Confirm whether a minimum applies per sector, per day or on another basis.

For shorter European journeys, this exercise deserves particular attention. A minimum charge may account for a substantial share of the total bill.

What does a fixed hourly rate protect?

The answer depends on which parts of the price are fixed, and for how long.

A programme may fix the base hourly rate while allowing fuel adjustments. A new rate may apply at renewal or when additional funds are purchased. Airport charges, travel outside the service area or a change of aircraft category may have separate treatment.

Ask for written answers to four questions:

  1. Which charges are included in the quoted hourly rate?

  2. Which charges can change during the agreement?

  3. Does the rate protection apply to additional hours or funds?

  4. What happens to existing funds when the programme changes its terms?

These questions establish what the rate commitment is worth for your travel pattern. A claim about fuel prices or operating costs alone cannot explain an individual renewal increase without a breakdown from the provider.

Compare the aircraft and airports you actually use

Start with your recent flying record: routes, passenger numbers, luggage, departure times and notice periods.

A London to Paris Le Bourget journey and a longer flight to the eastern Mediterranean should be assessed separately. Cabin space, baggage capacity and range requirements can lead to different aircraft choices. A category label also needs to be translated into the aircraft the provider can supply under the agreement.

Airport coverage is equally important. For a traveller who uses Farnborough, confirm that airport’s treatment in the programme rather than assuming general London coverage answers the question. For Cannes or Nice, establish the proposed aircraft’s operational suitability and how a change of airport would be handled.

Ask how category changes affect the balance. An upgrade may alter the hourly rate or the number of hours deducted. The contract should explain both the cost and the process.

Check the booking conditions alongside the price

A programme’s value also depends on how well its rules fit your diary.

Ask for the current peak day calendar, required booking notice, cancellation deadlines and any permitted departure time changes. Check those rules against school holidays, recurring business commitments and other dates when your schedule has little flexibility.

Review expiry and refund provisions before committing funds. Establish how unused balances are treated and request a clear explanation of any arrangements intended to protect prepaid money. These terms deserve the same attention as the headline rate.

Jet card or charter: how should you compare them?

A jet card merits consideration when its service area, aircraft access and booking rules closely match a predictable flying pattern. Charter merits consideration when destinations, passenger numbers or aircraft requirements vary between journeys.

The comparison should use identical itineraries. Request a complete charter quotation and a written card deduction for the same airports, dates, aircraft requirements and cancellation assumptions.

For charter, include positioning and all relevant charges in the comparison. For the card, include any minimum billing and supplements. Avoid comparing an advertised hourly rate with a complete trip quotation.

Pricing varies according to aircraft, airport charges, positioning and seasonal demand.

Before your next renewal

Review jet card prices against a representative year of flying. Include a short journey, a longer journey, a busy travel date and a booking made at short notice.

The strongest basis for a decision is a written comparison showing what each option costs and what it commits to provide. That gives an hourly rate its proper context: the aircraft, timing and flexibility your journeys require.

Frequently asked questions

Are jet card prices rising in 2026?

Rates rose in the first quarter, while the latest Q3 research reports a decline in the average hourly rate. Minimum billing has also changed. Review the proposed terms of an individual programme before drawing conclusions from market averages.

Does a jet card guarantee a fixed total flight price?

That depends on the agreement. Check the base rate, fuel treatment, minimum billing, airport charges, taxes and any supplements. A programme may fix its base hourly rate while allowing a separate fuel adjustment.

Is a jet card cheaper than booking charter?

There is no universal answer. Compare complete costs for the same journeys, including minimum billable time, positioning, aircraft requirements and cancellation conditions.

How much does a jet card cost?

The commitment depends on the provider, hours or funds purchased, aircraft category and service area. Request a current written proposal stating the initial payment, ongoing charges and deductions for representative trips.

Can I use a jet card for European flights?

Some jet card programmes cover European flights. Confirm the countries, airports and aircraft covered by the specific agreement. North American pricing research should not be treated as a European rate guide.

What should I check before renewing?

Compare the old and proposed rate schedules, minimum billing, peak dates, booking notice, expiry, refunds and aircraft access. Ask the provider to show the effect on your actual journeys.
